Alan B. Swearingen, MD

Dr. Swearingen is a double board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain medicine physician and the founder of Texas Interventional Pain Institute. He is a skilled pain management specialist who takes a team effort approach to care as he works collaboratively with patients to determine the most effective treatments and therapies for optimal, long-term results.

Using a combination of compassion, an approachable personality, and a desire to form an open and trusting relationship with his patients, Dr. Swearingen fosters a calm and relaxing office environment where everyone feels at ease. Besides having a goal of helping relieve his patients’ pain, he wants Texas Interventional Pain Institute to be a place that visitors find peaceful and welcoming.

Education and presenting patients with information about various pain-related products and procedures is Dr. Swearingen’s priority. He believes that anyone living with long-term acute or chronic pain deserves a thorough medical evaluation as well as a custom-tailored treatment plan that meets their unique needs.

Dr. Swearingen attended Texas A&M College of Medicine in College Station, Texas. He completed his residency training at the University of Texas-Houston and Baylor College of Medicine, where he earned his board certification in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Swearingen went on to subspecialize in interventional pain medicine and completed his fellowship training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Outside of the office, Dr. Swearingen has several hobbies and interests, including traveling, watching and participating in various sports, and spending time with his wife and family. He is involved with several community service organizations, and he enjoys working as a medical volunteer at athletic events such as endurance races, marathons, and triathlons.

Angel McClinton, PA-C

Angel McClinton, PA-C, is board certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and licensed by the Texas Medical Board. She is a native Texan, raised in Houston.

She attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas on an academic scholarship where she was selected into the Gamma Beta Phi Honors Society and Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Societies, and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Bachelor of Arts in Biology, and minor in Chemistry. She then completed her Master of Science in Physician Assistant at the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, New York in 2010.

Angel has a broad background of experience, including over six years of interventional pain medicine, followed by years in Diagnostic Radiology and Surgical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. She understands how acute and chronic pain conditions can significantly affect an individual’s quality of life, and she aims to relieve their discomfort and help them restore function.

Outside of the office, she enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, reading, and volunteering in the community.
